An ESCEO-IOF/Servier Achievement Award: the 2013 winner is Professor Maria-Luisa BRANDI

Servier, in partnership with the European Society for Clinical and Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis (ESCEO) and the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF), created the Pierre Delmas Prize in 2010, which is awarded every year to an individual for outstanding and major scientific contributions to the study of bone and mineral diseases.

The prize is named in honour of Pierre Delmas, Professor of Medicine and Rheumatology at the University of Lyon (France), Director of the INSERM research unit “Pathophysiology of Osteoporosis” and also the Founding President of the IOF. Pierre Delmas was an outstanding scientist who directed essential basic clinical research in metabolic bone diseases, particularly in osteoporosis and osteoarthritis.

The fourth Pierre Delmas Prize (that consists of a diploma, a medal, and a grant of 40 000 €) was awarded on April 17, at the opening of the ESCEO13-IOF Congress in Rome, by Ms Laurence Alliot, Director of Medical Affairs, to Professor Maria-Luisa BRANDI from Florence (Italy), in recognition of her major scientific achievements in cellular and molecular endocrinology as related to bone and mineral metabolism.
Maria-Luisa Brandi, MD/PhD, is Full Professor of Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases at the University of Florence, Italy, where she directs the Regional Program on Hereditary Endocrine Tumors and the Bone Metabolic Unit. Her reputation in the area of bone and mineral metabolism is well recognized nationally and internationally. She owns 7 patents and has published over 500 papers in peer reviewed journals and 200 book chapters. She was the President of the Italian Society of Osteoporosis, serves as a member of the Scientific Committee of the International Osteoporosis Foundation, is General Secretary of the European Society for Clinical and Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis & Osteoarthritis (ESCEO) and President of the Fondazione Italiana per la Ricerca Sulle Malattie dell’Osso. She is the editor-in-Chief of Clinical Cases in Mineral and Bone Metabolism.
